One day, a new immigrant, still struggling with the English language, received a phone call from a telemarketer selling magazine subscriptions.
After patiently listening to the sales pitch, the new citizen responded in faltering English, “I don’t want a prescription.”
The stranger on the phone was quick to point out the man's error, saying smartly, “It is a subscription, not a prescription.”
Perplexed and slightly offended by the superior tone the peddler had used with him, the man asked, “Are you marking my English?”
The caller replied, “The word is pronounced mocking.”
The man hung up... And you guessed it...
